Meg Wroe has been making art for as long as she can
remember. She has recently completed a Fine Art degree at Central St Martins
School of Art, University of the Arts, London.
Her most recent work reflects a shift in emphasis from abstract landscape-inspired
paintings, to using found objects and painting on reclaimed wood. This shift
originated from her research into the ‘resonance of objects’ -
the discovery that bringing together different objects, creates an unexpected
creative ‘fusion’. The objects resonate not just with each other
but also with the viewer.
Meg’s work in the final year of the degree was around this theme. The
paintings on this site, such as ‘chairs’ and ‘music’,
have emerged during her final year, and the ‘ladders’ are from
the degree show. Meg has attempted to use colour in these paintings, to express
the idea of a ‘visual music’. The ‘ladder’ paintings
are made on reclaimed wooden boards, with the ladder ‘drawn’ into
them using a chisel and hammer. Each of the degree show paintings is accompanied
by an old ladder - or part of ladder - which was the inspiration for the paintings.
